What is a Museum School

Excitingly, we are now a Museum Magnet School, which means we're turning our classrooms into captivating spaces where curiosity knows no bounds. Just like how a museum holds treasures waiting to be discovered, our classrooms are filled with opportunities for your child to learn, play, and grow. We can't wait for them to embark on this incredible journey of imagination and discovery with us.

A museum is a place that houses and shares a purposeful collection of things and experiences. Our school is a museum of our student's learning.

Three times a year we open the doors of our museum on Exhibit Nights! These nights are showcases of the amazing things our students have learned.

Museum Partners

We have three amazing local museum partners who work with us to provide engaging, hands-on, educational experiences to all students. The museum exhibits, themes, and topics are integrated into our museum units, allowing students to take what they learn on museum expeditions and bring it back into the classroom for further exploration.

Additionally, TFS families may check out family museum passes to each of our partners so that they can visit the museums and extend the learning into home experiences.

Lyman Allyn Art Museum

A local art museum focused on local history and artists, their permanent collections include American Perspectives and Louis Comfort Tiffany in New London. Visitors can explore the history of Connecticut through many art mediums. Their rotating exhibits feature many different genres, artists, and mediums, allowing for a wide range of learning opportunities. The Lyman Allyn has a significant commitment to education and provides educational programs to schools and throughout the summer months.

Niantic Children's Museum

The Niantic Children's Museum is an interactive, hands-on, educational place for children to try new roles, let their imaginations soar, and feel safe while exploring the world around them. Their fully accessible space includes indoor and outdoor learning opportunities designed to encourage, engage, and challenge children from 9 months to 9 years in the arts, sciences, and world cultures.

Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center

DPNC is dedicated to inspiring an understanding of the natural world and ourselves as a part of it, through the past, present, and future. They focus on stewarding nature to enhance habitats for wildlife and providing the opportunity for all people to access its physical, mental, and spiritual benefits. Their goal is to support a community focused on the importance of the natural world and to create connections, taking lessons from our past to support healthy interactions with nature now, and in the future.

Why Choose The Friendship School

We are the only school of our kind dedicated to early childhood learners. As a museum school, we nurture the masterpiece inside each child. Through a whole-child approach, we balance academics and social-emotional learning.
