Andrea Simmons has been the principal of The Friendship School since 2015.  Prior to her role at TFS, Mrs. Simmons was a teacher leader in the Boston Public Schools. She taught first, second, and fourth grades in a variety of settings, including Sheltered English Instruction and inclusive classrooms.  Mrs. Simmons graduated summa cum laude from Suffolk University in Boston with a bachelor of arts degree in developmental psychology.  She earned her M.Ed. from UMass Boston.   Mrs. Simmons became interested in education leadership through the Boston Teacher Leadership certificate program.  This coursework led her to complete her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study/6th Year Degree at UMass Boston. 

Mrs. Simmons completed UConn’s Neag School of Education Pre-k to 3 Leadership Program in 2016, focusing her leadership on the needs of our youngest learners in the birth to age eight range.  She believes strongly in the importance of early childhood education, family engagement, social justice, and equity.  Mrs. Simmons and her husband returned to southeastern Connecticut in 2014 to be near family.  They have two sons, Gavin and Harper, and a dog, Alvin.  She is excited to be part of Connecticut’s magnet schools and to lead such a unique learning environment!
